Babble-y Things

Nashville has an interesting skyline. If you live in or near Davidson County, then you know what I'm talking about. Anyone else, if I mentioned Batman and R2D2, you would think that I was having a movie marathon.
This is the Batman Building. Right next to the Batman Building is R2D2. Here they are together.
One of my friends from TN just posted this on FB.
Yes, I'm easily amused.
What else is going on...
I'm in the market for a new bedroom set. Moving constantly is hard on furniture, especially when you had no money when you bought the original stuff and ended up buying engineered wood. Because that's what you could afford.
Of course, I still have no money... And real wood that will last will cost... A shit-ton of money. And... Honestly, I have not seen any that I like. I do look, just so I know. And... Nope. I don't like them.
So, I've been stalking Craig's List to see if anything interesting came up. Some really dated pieces. Like, really dated. And one king sized head and foot board that I would have loved if we consistently had room for a king sized bed. A lot of the older base houses were never meant to house a queen, much less a king. I know a lot of people who end up having the bed in one room and all the dressers and such in another room.
One of the things I found was a refinished antique dresser. Circa 1940s, mahogany wood with a red mahogany stain. For $175. So, we went and looked at it. Which is funny, because despite talking to DH about it, he managed to completely miss the fact that I was serious about this. Silly boy.
So, here is my "new" dresser. Yay! I love it. Real wood, heavy, and built to last. What more could you ask for?
More furniture, of course. Luckily the gentleman we bought it from finds and refinishes old furniture as a way to keep busy during his retirement. So he has another chest of drawers in the same general style that he's working on. It will look like this one, but with square tapered legs, once he gets the layers of white paint off of it. He offered to sell it to us cheap as-is, but while DH and I are perfectly capable of refinishing it... I could only work on it while the baby is asleep, and DH has enough side projects going on right now.
So, the gentleman has my number with instructions to call me once he's finished with it. He says he'll probably sell it for $225. So worth it. And he's on the look out for a bed frame that will match. Which... *sigh* Beds of the era were not standardized. Queen and king were not really around until the 50s. Which means that most likely we will not have a queen-sized bed frame if we go antique. Which can be OK, since they make conversion rails to hold a queen bed. But... Would the over hang look weird? It probably depends on the bed.
Youngest's 10th birthday is tomorrow. Wow. We celebrated last weekend, though. Because...
#3's 1st birthday is Sunday! And he's into EVERYTHING.
Let's see... Eldest and Youngest have a Tae Kwon Do belt test on the 14th. Despite only being in class for a month and a half, their teacher (I can't remember the Korean term for him) says that they are ready and that unless they get nervous, they should pass with flying colors. So, that's cool.
Friday the 13th is the Deployment Fair. Which is a series of booths were they make sure that families know what is available to them while their soldier is deployed. I know it all already. But I still have to go. 9 am until noon. Fun. Not.
Yes, Deployment Fairs are important. And good. And have a lot of good information. If this is your first deployment. It's not ours. DH has been in for over 10 years now. This is his third deployment. Blah.
And... It might be a moot point anyway. I still have to go (well, they can't actually make me go, but I still have to go...). But he might not actually deploy. There's always someone who has to stay behind and handle things here. Family problems, questions, return details, etc. And right now there seems to be a 50/50 chance that one of those people will be DH. Which... One hand, yay, he's not going into a war zone, he'll not miss 9+ months of #3's life, I won't have to take over doing the bills. All good things.
But... He'd be frustrated over being here when everyone else is in danger. And there's a money component. He'll make more money if he's deployed. Which is good for paying off some of these bills. And refinancing Rosehill.
If he stays back, he stays back. Such is life.
Youngest also has a Speech Therapy appointment in August. Finally. One of the oddities about home schooling is that it can be difficult to do things that are normally taken care of by the school district. Like Speech Therapy. And I have tried to get help with it before, but have been largely ignored by the school liaison office. Both here and at Benning. Very annoying. So, I asked the doctor about it, and got a referral through them, so that our medical insurance will pay for it.
He's gotten much easier to understand over the last couple of years, some of which is because we're making him talk. And have told Eldest that he can't translate. But he still has trouble with Ls, Rs, and THs.
It's currently 79* here in El Paso. In TN, it's 98* I have the windows open and the AC off. It's glorious!
