DH got a new job! Large corporation with lots of room for upward growth. One of the guys he interviewed with said that they were going to have a problem with trying to keep him on the level he was hired at because the company will want to promote him.

DH is... He want a to work at this level for awhile first. Learn the business. But then he is fine with it.

Also, $1,000 more a month. Give it take? And not necessarily better health insurance, but they pay MORE or the monthly cost. I dint know what percentage they pay yet. But it HAS to be better than the old job. (SiL worked at the same company as DH for a few months. When she quit to work for the Ubiquitous Yellow Store, she took an overall pay cut, but the take home pay was more because of insurance.)

The whole insurance thing is what really made DH go "Huh..." and start looking. And after some of the crap that has gone on for the last few months, I'm glad he did.

Out of boredom and curiosity, he watched a video on how to tell if your workplace is a toxic environment. He scoffed at the beginning, he said. Then, as he was watching it, started going "oh..." Apparently half of the examples he could identify in his office.

In other news: Eldest has a job interview tomorrow for a thing that could be an actual career. Not that retail is not a career. But a job that will pay him a real wage and that has growth opportunities. So, wish him luck on that.

And other, other news: SiL is gonna have twins! They are due Easter.

MiL is going to drive us crazy with it, I am sure...
jo_anne_storm: (Bones -- Ew!)
Kindle and autocorrect do not like me. I consistently hit the period instead of the space bar. It causes grammar issues.

So, it's been six weeks now since I started having an allergic reaction to something. I finally had a dermatology appointment yesterday. I liked the NP. So, yay.

Official diagnosis is hives, which I knew. I am also now on an elimination diet to try to figure it out. Fun. No milk, eggs, tomatoes, pork, nuts, or a couple of other things.

Seriously, if I'm reacting to tomatoes, I'm going to throw the biggest fit. I love tomatoes.

I knew an elimination diet was the next step, I just... didn't want to do it. It's a hassle. Luckily, my MiL is being good about it, since my doctor told me to do it.

Also, 2 new prescriptions. One could cause mood changes. Isn't that fun?

Anyway, first day of the diet went ok. Except that I got too hungry while at Wal-Mart. I didn't cheat, though.

In other news, Eldest turns 18 next week. WHAT!?!?!

And DH is two months overdue for knee injections because the VA is stupid.
jo_anne_storm: (Toph -- Upside Down)
Eventually I will stop doing this.  Really.  Going from walking pneumonia straight to bronchitis was not my best plan.  I'm feeling much better, but I keep waking up in the middle of the night, coughing my head off.  It is not fun.

Updates from recent posts:

Back in May there was the whole shit storm about throwing her things away and moving fabric.  We finally have all the fabric washed and folded.  Not quite 2 seven foot bookcases worth of fabric, once it was folded neatly.  Or, neatish.  And it is not sorted very well.  But I can now at least touch all of it without gagging.  And, yes, I threw some away.  Anything smaller than my hand (and not an obvious quilting project), mouse eaten, or piss stained was snuck out and burned.  Because EW! My MiL every once in awhile will make a "subtle" comment to see if I threw something out.  Will mention a large piece of green cloth that used to be in the sewing room, or large safety pins, but she doesn't know where they are now.

DH LOVES his job.  He is basically the problem solver for a company that prints off bank documents.  So, tax forms, notices that they are not going to penalize you for a late payment due to the hurricane and flooding, that sort of thing.  And his bosses love him, so that's good.

He is currently on a low dose antidepressant.  He's been on one before, right after he got out of the Army.  It did not work then, but that was before his knee pain was effectively treated.  This time, since he is not in constant pain, it is working much better.  He doesn't feel as short tempered and doesn't feel like a shoe is about to drop.  So, that's all good.  The psychology appointments have not worked out so well, though.  He's supposed to be doing Skype type appointments, only the doctor he was assigned to can't get her system to work...

The House was appraised today.  (And Now My Kindle It Capitalizing Every Word.  Why?)  It went well, I think.  The appraiser basically said that we would easily appraise for the refinance amount.  So, yay.

And the, Eldest put his foot through the ceiling while putting Christmas boxes away.  Again.  He did it 2 years ago as well.  Youngest did it last year.  So...  I have a hole in my ceiling, because I could not deal tonight. I'm going to make him fix it, because skillz.

Oh, the other thing that happened (and now my Kindle is not capitalizing things, but if I type too fast it adds letters and won't take them away.  Kindle and the DW dialog box do not get along.) is that the fridge downstairs has possibly bit the dust.  I'm honestly not sure.  It's only 2 ish years old.  But the freezer portion is not getting cold enough and the fridge is freezing things.  We are defrosting it tonight and I will try again tomorrow.  This is after the water filter in it cracked and flooded the basement kitchen.  So...  Yeah.

Oh!  Insulation is up in the basement room we are remodeling.  The difference in temperature is amazing!  Once the sheetrock is up, we plan on shuffling the boys into that room while we do the same to their bedroom.  Because it makes that significant of a difference.

(And now the Kindle is not auto capitalizing after periods and the autocorrect feature is just the options of s, d, and this...  Every time I switch to a different tab for a moment, to check to see what needs an infodump update, the quirk between Kindle and the DW dialog changes. Or Possibly When I Click OutSide Of The Dialog Box.  Seriously?!?!?!

now im going to play with it.  this is one click outside the box.  obviously autotcorrect has failed.

Next, What Is It Going TO Do?

ThirD Time?  This Thing Is So.Weird.

Forth.  Wonder What Will Happen If I Go To A Didifferent Tabout For A Moment.

Let's See, Shall We?

Yeah, kindle And Ew Have Issues.)

Oh!  The cat that had kittens.  We ended up keeping 2 of them.  This means we have 6 cats in the house, which is way too much.  Good thing we have a 5,000.square foot house...  We kept the black girl, who is Luci Furr and the boy, who is Loki.  Both have been fixed already.  After the holidays I will get their mom fixed.

Also, sorry for tbe crazy spellings, capitalizations, and randomness.  I blame it all on the quirk.

jo_anne_storm: (IPS -- Grammar)
For all that I joke about being a Grammar Nazi, I do understand that mistakes happen and tend to ignore it when friends and family post something that's a little wonky.  And DH loves misusing sense, since, and cents just to bug me (he does get sense and since confused, but will play it up whenever he sends things to me, using as many combinations as possible just to get me to sigh).

This, though...

I think I would have to unfriend anyone who wrote like this:

dat is considewed an Emewgency....call da city. Dey shoulds fix it and chawge him. Or habs someone fix it, and take fwom went! Sowee not closew. We habs a contwator can needs wowk wight now and he would come immediately and fix it good!

*TWITCH!!!!*

And it has to be deliberate, right?  Some stupid affectation...  Oh, God...  Even worse.  It's a fucking PET account!  Why the hell do people have pet FB accounts?  So stupid.

In other news, last week sucked.  We managed to pick up a tummy virus and a cold in the same week.  Now that's talent.  We all spent the whole week miserable.  Youngest says he feels sick today.  That might just be because he does not want to do anything.

#3 had an audiologist appointment yesterday, just to check to make sure that nothing was wrong with his hearing.  That whole speech delay thing.  He does have a little extra pressure in his ears, but it's still in the normal range.  He heard all the sounds that he was supposed to.  Just like I've been saying, he just is not ready to talk.

He is saying more and more.  Like he says "got it" now, when he's reached something hard to get.  He's just not a chatter box.  He has big brothers and a mommy who respond to the point and grunt.

And my sister is silly.  She sews backwards.  For my crafty friends, you know when you sew on a machine, you put the bulk of the fabric to the left of the machine as you sew.  My sister puts it on the right, between the needle and the machine.  I think she can only do this because she has a machine designed for quilters.  My machine, the space there is barely big enough for my hand and the few times I do have to put fabric there, it's a disaster.

Eldest is good.  Growing his hair long and wearing a fedora.  Because he's silly that way.

Both boys just earned their green belts in TKD and are very proud of this.  They're also taking an extra weapons class once a month and I'm going to order them their own bo staffs during the next class.  As well as sparring gear.  *winces*  That's going to be $500, between the two of them.  And that's with the TKD master shopping around to find the best deal.

First of all: happy birthday websandwhiskers!  I hope you have a good day.

Secondly, holy crap the weather is insane!  Here in far far far west Texas we have snow!  SNOW!!!  And far far far west Texas does not have the equipment to deal with snow.  I doubt that El Paso even has a salt truck.

So, let's see...  Maybe an inch yesterday morning (I did not measure).  That mostly melted by noon, but then we got another 1.5 inches and another dusting overnight.  People in like Michigan and Kansas and such are laughing their asses off at El Paso right now.

The city SHOULD have shut down yesterday.  Ft Bliss, the Army base effectively did.  The local news reported that there were over 250 accidents yesterday.  And early this morning there were several roll over accidents.  The main road I take to go anywhere is closed from just east of me all the way west to the state line.

Yeah, I'm keeping my happy little butt home!

So, anyway, since I haven't done it in quite awhile: Pictures!
Pictures! )

OK.  I have ranted and babbled and dealt with some of my built up feelings.  Now I feel like I'm going to pass out.

Migraines suck donkey dicks.  Seriously.  It's not even all that bad right now.  I'm not curled up in the bed with a pillow over my head, which is a vast improvement over the one I had a few months ago.

Why is life so busy?  Why do I keep adding activities?  Or, better yet, why do my kids keep adding activities?

Monday is TKD and speech therapy.  Tuesday is gloriously free.  Wednesday is TKD.  Thursday is gloriously free.  Friday is speech therapy.  Saturday is TKD demo team practice.  Sunday is church and Sunday school.

I would like to sign the munchkin up for toddler gymnastics in a couple of months, but that's held on Tuesday and Thursdays.  Which means that I would be at the gym 5/7 days.  I would go batty.

I can't imagine how school kids and their parents do this.  I really can't.

I'm trying to make a plush Serenity for DH for Xmas.  Since we have to do his Xmas a month early...  I possibly should have started earlier.  If it gets done, it gets done.  If not, oh well.

And, yeah, I really have nothing else to say.
jo_anne_storm: (Pixar -- Laugh)
I was just telling [personal profile] dream_mancer  about Eldest reading fanfic at The Pit.  My advice to him boiled down to:  "Stay away from sex, violence, and girls with floor length purple hair."

Happy birthday, [personal profile] goddessvicky !

Um...  Do I have anything else to post about?

*shrug*  Babble it is!

Eldest and Youngest have a Taekwondo belt test on Saturday.  They're up for Orange.  Their master says that they have it.  So, yay.

This is actually going to be a busy week for me.  FRG meeting on Wednesday  Hail and Farewell on Friday (if I can find a freaking sitter!), and then the belt test on Saturday.  And I seriously have to clean the house.  No, like SERIOUSLY.

#3 is toddling along.  He still only says a couple of words, but his understanding is obvious.  And he loves learning and using sign language.  He knows Mommy, Papa, brother, cat, bird, bunny, ball, more, eat, drink, and hurt...  He doesn't always use them, but he does know them.  And he's using a fork and spoon.  If only I could get him to STAY in his highchair with them.

Wow, Eldest and Youngest are so not awake yet.  #3 is, though!

DH is about to have 3 weeks off.  This might drive me batty.

jo_anne_storm: (BtVS -- Babble)
I think it's in poor taste to rec your own story to a rec community.

I'm so glad that I am not a pre-pubescent hormone bomb.  Though, how Eldest's Tae Kwon Do master dealt with the explosion of said bomb was wonderful.  He sat and talked to Eldest for a good 10 minutes after class (which ran 10 minutes over) until Eldest was once again his happy self.  Then the master came out and told me that I was a wonderful mom and was doing a great job.

This is soooo much better than the last time Eldest took a martial art, back at the ripe old age of 4.  He acted up a little and the teacher proceeded to make me feel like an awful mother because the 4 year old was not used to being in a class of 30 kids.  He started giving me parenting advice about using positive reinforcement.  This is the same teacher that made Eldest go from refusing to take his Gi off to screaming at the idea of attending class.

Yeah.  It was not a good fit for us. (I know other people who say that school is great and have had zero problems through multiple kids and multiple years.)

On another good note, today demonstrated to Eldest that sometimes you just need the emotional release of crying.  A little later he said "You know, I feel a lot better after crying."

I love him to pieces.

I'm also glad I'm not teething.  #3 is still happy, but more prone to crying for no apparent reason.  And where the top two teeth are trying to pop out looks bruised and swollen.  Poor boy.  Of course, the fact that he was too hot, hungry, and tired when we got home did not help at all.

In other news...  Is there other news?  *shrug*

Did I mention that my husband is in CA this week?  He's been away every other week since he started work here.  It makes life interesting, to say the least.

There was something else I wanted to chatter about.  But I forgot.  *sigh*  My brain is a sieve.

I should say something about Youngest.  I mentioned Eldest and #3.  Youngest is...  Bee bopping along.  He enjoys TKD as well. *shrug*  I'm not letting him get lost in the shuffle, I swear.  I just...  Have nothing to say about him right now.
jo_anne_storm: (BtVS -- Babble)
I don't normally watch the doctor talk shows.  Because the doctors annoy me.  But I was impressed with Dr. Oz starting out his spiel today saying that being healthy did not mean looking like Twiggy.  Yay.

So...  I stepped on the scale today.  I don't normally, because it depresses me.  And for the first time in about 8 years, it read under 200 pounds.  *blinks*  I've lost approximately 15 pounds in a month.  How?  Good question.  Where?  Also a good question.

OK, I have made some lifestyle changes.  I'm trying to not sit my fat butt in front of the tv/computer so much.  And trying, with limited success, to do some sort of exercise every day, even if it's just some crunches.  We've switched back to whole wheat bread and pasta, for the most part.  And I'm trying to drink more liquids during the day.  Which is oddly hard.  I forget to drink and I? don't know why.

I should mention that we don't really eat unhealthy around here.  I mean, sure, we should add in more fruits and veggies, but there's really no junk food in my house.  The kids eat apples, pears, bananas, etc for snacks.  We easily go through 9 pounds of apples a week.  That's just the apples.  And they're not going to waste.  Youngest eats everything but the stem.  Eldest leaves a scrap of the core.

So where did my lost 15 pounds come from?  No idea.  I don't look or feel like I have lost any weight.  Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled that I'm under 200 pounds again, but I really wish I could see the change.

Of course, the 15 pounds could just be from the hair #3 has pulled from my head.  Today.

Comment to this post, and I will list five things I associate with you, They might make sense or they might be totally random. Then post that list, with your commentary, to your LJ (or just add a reply back to me). Other people (including me) can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.

I got Luna, boys (as in your own), army, Tennessee, pictures from [livejournal.com profile] dream_mancer.

The party was a success.  Eldest got quite the haul.  Air Hogs rockets and spy gear and new crystal kits.  He's very happy.

The movie was fun.  Not sure who is cuter, Caspian or Peter.  Caspian has the black eyes and accent, Peter with the blue eyes and kissable lips...

And I bet they're both jail bait.

Susan is so pretty.

I LEAVE TOMORROW!  *SQUEE!!!!*
